Oh the weather outside is frightful…

I’d like to blame alien abduction, but the truth is unfortunately far less exciting. Bearing that in mind, I have no intentions of boring you with the rather sudden buildup of my day-to-day schedule. On another note…

Merry Christmas!

I almost thought Vegan Kid was going to miss out on the holiday season, but I just couldn’t bear the thought of all my regular and not-so-regular visitors being graced with a rather suspect pumpkin during this month of lights, cheer and indulgence….

On All Hallow’s Eve..

With no more bright summer evenings to look forward to and far fewer outdoor activities to be had, I can’t help but return to the inner sanctum that is my kitchen and arm myself once again with my trusted wooden spoon! I hope you have all had an unforgettable Summer, as I know I certainly have.

It seems somewhat of a contradiction in terms to be wishing someone a ‘Happy Halloween’….

Nevertheless, I’m going to go ahead and wish it!

During my hiatus, life seems to have spun wildly, hurling me into all sorts of different experiences, leaving me feeling a little deflated and unmotivated but I just wanted to thank you for not deserting me completely!

Hopefully, you may have noticed that ‘Vegan Kid’ has now made it’s way onto Facebook and Twitter. I want to thank those who have already joined and encourage those who haven’t to do so! These pages will consist of smaller but more regular updates and images. You’ll be kept up to date with whats happening, so it’s worth joining!

Anyway, with the onset of winter, recipes will pick up! I am afraid to say, however, I have learnt not to promise recipes, as sometimes the outcome of certain experiments aren’t anything like I would have hoped and therefore rendering the recipe unfit for publication until I can play around a bit more…

Apart from that, I can say I have been juggling so many ideas recently, so at one point or another, there is likely to be a mass influx of recipes which won’t necessarily have any seasonal relevance or follow in any particular order but nobody minds that, right?

Happy Halloween!

Not Eggbert, Tofu…

Running low on words, I feel somewhat “naughty” posting this without a bit more substance.

Or at least some sort of unnecessary tale!

However, after a sneaky photo appearing in ‘The Vegan‘ over three months ago, I have made numerous citations about this recipe. I have received many requests for it and since having enjoyed the meal myself several times this week, I don’t feel it’s right for me to keep it to myself any longer…

Get Some Good…

Sadly for me, I have been a victim of the common cold for the past few weeks and have been able to taste little, if anything at all! For that reason, I regret to say that this review is a little overdue.

Nevertheless,  a few weeks ago, the lovely guys at Braham & Murrays sent me a sample of their new product, Good Hemp! I was absolutely thrilled to have the chance to be one of the first to try this  healthy new milk alternative.

Bloodthirsty Deception…

Please be aware, this post contains images that some poeple may find upsetting.

What is one supposed to think when you come to realise that something as innocent as a side portion of peas, or even a humble loaf of bread, could potentially be the result of numerous callous and unnecessary deaths.

I write this now, after witnessing something so distressing, it just sickened me….

An alternative view…

Firstly, I must apologise for this rather ad-hoc post. Secondly, I’d like to apologise for repeatedly poor efforts at posting and thirdly, I’d like to apologise for the rant you are about to read….

Lately, I have been seeing, for my liking, far too many Iams adverts. I have never liked this company and unless they have a major overhaul of their ethical policy, it is very unlikely that I ever will. Maybe it’s just me, but over the past couple of months, I have noticed this brand popping up more and more in the media.

As a sidenote, for a pet-orientated business, it shocks me that they continue to subject defenceless animals to cruel experiments despite numerous pleas from antivivisection campaigners. So, ignoring the fact that this company has no moral values to speak of, it is their advertising that infuriates me most. Maybe it is silly. Maybe it’s not, but consider this. If a tablet was developed, that contained your total calorie requirement for the day, as well as all the minerals and vitamins you would need, would you take it rather than enjoy three meals a day?

No? Then why would anyone subject their pet to this same concept?

Food is one of lifes pleasures and it is there to be savoured and enjoyed, not just fuel us. We are not the only creatures who enjoy eating! Have you ever watched a hamster rummage through its bowl to find it’s favourite bits or a dog sniff and lick unfamiliar foods, curious as to whether he will like it.

Iams’ advert lets people think that a cat would be far happier with a bowl of dry flavourless pellets, as opposed to four bowls of wet food. Whether your pets are veg*n or not, food is there to be enjoyed and if we were to consider Iam’s concept ourselves, it is the equivilent of offering one dry bowl of Weetabix a day, instead of a different and flavourful meal at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Don’t you look forward to your meals?

Then imagine your pet only having that pleasure once during the day and having nothing more than dry pellets to look forward to.

I realise this is post is very random and out of the blue but I just wanted to vent a little. I will be posting a recipe this week and getting back to my usual topics but just out of interest, what do you think?
